~3/4 portions
Ingredients
Main
- ~500g cod fillets
- 1 cup flour
- 2 tbsps garlic powder
- 2 tbsps powdered red pepper
- ~300ml beer
- [lemon]
Basics
- salt
- pepper
- oil
Method
Preparation
- wash and pat dry lightly the cod fillets, cut into desired size
Cooking
- Pour the oil into a saucepan or a small pot until ~height of the fillets + ~10%, and keep on high heat
- Mix flour, garlic powder, powdered red pepper, a dash of salt and pepper together in a flat bowl.
- Salt and pepper the fillets lightly, and pat the spices into them. Lightly coat in the flour mixture, and set aside
- Slowly mix beer into the flour mixture, until homogeneous - depending on the amount of flour might take more or less beer, but you don't want beer that won't mix in, and be left runny
- When oil is of the desired heat (check using an oil thermometer), coat the cod fillets in the mixture evenly, and lower into the oil carefully.
- Fry for ~2/3 minutes on each side, and leave on a paper towel covered plate to drain off the excess oil.
Serving
Serve with a sour side, like coleslaw, and optionally a lemon slice
