~3/4 portions

Ingredients

Main

  • ~500g cod fillets
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tbsps garlic powder
  • 2 tbsps powdered red pepper
  • ~300ml beer
  • [lemon]

Basics

  • salt
  • pepper
  • oil

Method

Preparation

  • wash and pat dry lightly the cod fillets, cut into desired size

Cooking

  1. Pour the oil into a saucepan or a small pot until ~height of the fillets + ~10%, and keep on high heat
  2. Mix flour, garlic powder, powdered red pepper, a dash of salt and pepper together in a flat bowl.
  3. Salt and pepper the fillets lightly, and pat the spices into them. Lightly coat in the flour mixture, and set aside
  4. Slowly mix beer into the flour mixture, until homogeneous - depending on the amount of flour might take more or less beer, but you don't want beer that won't mix in, and be left runny
  5. When oil is of the desired heat (check using an oil thermometer), coat the cod fillets in the mixture evenly, and lower into the oil carefully.
  6. Fry for ~2/3 minutes on each side, and leave on a paper towel covered plate to drain off the excess oil.

Serving

Serve with a sour side, like coleslaw, and optionally a lemon slice
